Sugar as addictive as illegal drugs

Research is now showing that sugar is as addictive as illegal drugs like cocaine and heroin. We have all heard of "food addiction." After consuming sugar the gastrointestinal tract (GI tract) releases opiods and dopamine, some of the happy chemicals that trigger the "reward system" in the brain. Essentially when you consume sugar it makes you want more, and more, and more. Doing so wreaks havoc on your hormones because of what it does to the brain, as well as the way it spikes blood sugar.
